 1212: Conchon, c. 1880

Antique Sublime Harmony Concerto Music Box by Conchon, c. 1880

A fantastic quality antique music box made by F. Conchon of Geneva, Switzerland in c. 1880.

The movement is bright and spectacular, and features 9 engraved bells struck by bird strikers, together with a double spring, tune indicator, tune selector, speed regulator, and twin zither bars, one on each of the main combs.

The original tunesheet details the twelve tunes this music box plays, which include Weber’s ‘Freischutz’, Rossini’s ‘Barber of Seville’, Bizet’s ‘Carmen’, Strauss’s ‘Tales from the Vienna Woods’, and Verdi’s ‘La Traviata’ - a magnificent collection of music played with a superb sound.

This is housed within a first-class inlaid case featuring a beautiful variety of wood veneers and an elaborate inlay of a bird with foliage to the lid.

All told, a first-class music box in excellent condition.
