Antique Long Marche Sublime Harmony Music Box by Junod, c. 1890

A fantastic-sounding longue marche antique music box made by Arthur Junod of St Croix, Switzerland in c. 1890.

The movement features a twin comb Sublime Harmony arrangement, which gives a beautiful complex sound to the selection of 8 operatic airs which the music box plays. These are detailed on the original tunesheet, and include Wagner’s Bridal Chorus, Balfe’s The Bohemian Girl, and Mascagni’s Cavalleria Rusticana.

This is all run from a long marche spring mechanism, using a combination of four springs wound with a ratchet to the side which, when fully wound, allows the box to play uninterrupted for over 1 hour on one winding.

This type of music box is also known as a dinner box because of its long playing time, allowing a host to give their guests their full attention.

This sits within a rosewood case with tulipwood stringing and boxwood inlay.
